Job Summary
This is a true generalist, all-rounder role working in our business services team that provides taxation, bookkeeping, payroll, software support, payroll tax, and IAS/BAS services. It's a diverse role for a tech-savvy tax accountant who enjoys working with clients loves Xero and working in an office with great people and support.
Your focus in the team is mostly on tax returns (you'll be the main person in our team doing this kind of work) as well as some IAS/BAS. As a team player from time to time your three colleagues in the bookkeeping team will need your amazing problem-solving and technical support to help with client issues.
Whilst this position really works for someone full-time, we know in a public accounting practice that part-time business services or even tax roles are hard to find and as such we are open to having someone working 4 full days per week, if you are great. We really just want the best person for our team and for our clients.
The core role will be varied in nature and keep you busy including:

The core role will be varied in nature and keep you busy including:
- Providing business tax information and advice to clients (including GST, Income Tax and Fringe Benefits Tax)
- Meeting/talking/emailing with clients (this is not a role hidden in the back office, you are core to our taxation team).
- Preparation of IAS & BAS, including end-of-year GST & ATO reconciliations
- Preparation of end-of-month reconciliations
- Preparation of Monthly/Quarterly Management Reports
- Preparation of Income Tax (Company/Trust/Partnership/Individual) and Fringe Benefits Reports
- Preparation of End of Financial Year Accounts (including depreciation schedules) using Xero and Handiledger
Other Ad hoc duties for your role when your colleagues need some hep
- Providing troubleshooting, problem-solving and software advice for clients experiencing issues with Xero & MYOB
- Processing Payroll and providing support to clients who do their own (including payroll tax returns, income statements, TPAR, STP, superannuation)
- General accounting/bookkeeping
Applicant requirements
You must have
- At least 2–4 years experience in a similar role at an Australian accounting firm.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- A desire to improve and a desire to learn (we believe in continuous improvement).
- Love of working with clients, and having client contact
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting.
- Knowledge of current GST/PAYG/Payroll law and basic tax law.
- Xero knowledge inside and out (exposure to MYOB is also highly regarded) including producing financial reports.
